My Darling Zac!

:::"New York's fashion director, Harriet Mays Powell, took our video cameras down to Zac Posen's studio to chat with the designer and check out his glorious goods. After showing off his fabulous eveningwear, Posen explains what his resort collection is all about and why he gravitates towards forties inspirations (you'll melt when you hear his explanation). Watch and love him more than you knew you could."

:::Oh how I adore my darling Zac! I am absolutely in love with him, as well as everyone else at the company.....and OF COURSE the clothes! Click here to watch the video and drool over the fabulousness!

Sean Avery Interns at Vogue?!?!

:::WTF?!?! When did this happen, and why is this the first I'm hearing about it?? Apparently, the New York Ranger has been a summer intern at Vogue for a month now, and has gotten to style shoots and act as guest editor to MensVogue.com. Being a former intern in the fashion industry, I can say with certainty that no intern gets THAT much power or responsibility, and these former Vogue interns agree. You don't get to fuck around in the House of Anna.

New York City Waterfalls

:::"Olafur Eliasson's four "New York City Waterfalls," a $15.5 million public art project, opened in the New York Harbor after two years of planning" New York Times

:::I absolutely LOVE large scale installation pieces like this. They're literally larger than life, and open to anyone and everyone. Not just excluded to uppity museums and galleries, pieces like this not only give everyone who wants to see it the opportunity to do so, but forces you take notice even if you don't. I can't wait to go take a look for myself sometime this week. You should do the same if you're in the NYC area!

Blender Drinks Are Back....

....according to this New York Times article. If you know me personally [or have lived with me in the last three years....you know who you are], you KNOW how I feel about blenders. Simply said, they're an overrated household appliance that everyone says they want and talks about how great it would be to make fun, frothy drinks, BUT NO ON EVER ACTUALLY BUYS ONE!

:::But I digress. Ice cold, blended, alcoholic delights are the essence of summer, and I just had my first one of the season last night. So head to Bed, Bath, & Beyond for your own devil-machine, pick up some Cpt. Mo', and start blending!

Here's a fun recipe for one of their featured drinks, Max's Mistake:

Time: 5 minutes

  • 1 tablespoon ( 1/2 ounce) honey syrup (see note)
  • 1 tablespoon passion fruit purée
  • 1 1/2 tablespoons superfine sugar
  • 1/4 cup (2 ounces) gin
  • 2 tablespoons (1 ounce) lemon juice
  • 1 dash Angostura bitters
  • 1/4 cup (2 ounces) sparkling lemonade, such as Lorina or San Pellegrino.

Combine everything but lemonade in a blender and blend for about 10 seconds. Add lemonade and 1 cup ice, preferably in small cubes. Blend for about 3 seconds. Pour contents into a goblet and add fresh ice to fill. Serve with a straw.

Yield: 1 drink.

Note: To make honey syrup, combine equal parts honey and water, and stir well.

Doogie Howser, M.D.

:::Ummm HI, I've kinda been obsessed with Neil Patrick Harris since I was like 4 years old. Not only is Barney Stinson SPECTACULAR [or AWESOME! as he would say], but Doogie will always hold a special place in my heart. Check out his new Old Spice commercial above, and the best damn scene from How I Met Your Mother below.

:::P. S. I totally called the whole Barney-Robin thing like months ago, and in the process won a slap bet of my own. Watch out KP.....

Cover Girl Lash Blast

:::OK, so I'm not really that into makeup [more of a fashion fiend actually], but I just used Cover Girl's new Lash Blast mascara, and it's phenom! It lengthens the crap out of your lashes, and lasts for like 4 months [seriously, taking it off is kinda hard]. But totally worth it! I like super long, almost fake looking '60s lashes, and I need all the help I can get lengthening [that's what he said]. I'm emotionally attached to my eyelash curler, but you don't even need one with this! Hit this shit up if you know what's good.

"STEPBROTHERS" OPENS JULY 25th!!!

:::OK, I know the last few Will Ferrell movies have all been the same, and that I'm totally bias [I mean I'd pay to see him read the back of a cereal box]. BUT, Stepbrothers looks hilarious! Will + John C. Reilly = comedic gold ["Shake & Bake!"]. The movie poster speaks for itself. Loves it!!!

"Transformers 2" in the Dirty Jerz

:::If you're in or around Princeton, keep an eye out for uber-hottie Shia LaBeouf and the gorge Megan Fox because they're in town filming Transfromers 2. A couple of my friends have trying to hang around on set and spotted the stars and such. Go try to be an extra if you're in the Dirty Jerz!

Steven Shearer

:::While trolling the streets of the East Village [I just made a permanent move to Manhattan], I stumbled upon the New Museum on Bowery, which I've been meaning to check out anyway. I forgot my student ID [technically not a student anymore as of May 23rd, but they sure as hell don't know that], so I had to pay the full $12. Needless to say, it ain't worth it [I'm used to D.C. museums & galleries that are free, so bear with me here]. It was a bit underwhelming, I must admit. There are like 5 levels, each floor super small. The first floor is a cafe and gift shop, both equally and expectedly overpriced. The second floor housed the current exhibit "Double Album: Daniel Guzman and Steven Shearer."

:::Guzman was not my fave, and all of the works incorporating human skulls just reminded me of Damien Hirst and the legions of others who now use that kind of symbolism as well. It represents death; we get it.

:::Shearer was not bad; I particularly liked the Leif Garrett photo collages. It was less of a fan's homage to his teeny-bopper-dom than Shearer depicting his own identity. Shearer looked strikingly similar to Garrett in his youth [I wonder if he had a lot of game by looking like a teen idol as a teen....?], and many of the collages were a mash up of both he and Garrett. While making the works, there was construction being done in his studio; when the contractor tore down a wall, he found a newspaper from the '70s with Garrett on the cover, in almost mint condition. Crazy!

:::Anyway, to make a long story even longer, it made me wanna unearth my old Britney & 'NSYNC pictures/posters, and create some conceptual, adolescent regression piece of my own [I was an art major once upon a time, however I don't exactly take my art seriously.....clearly]. Would YOU pay $12 to come see it???

Ass Clown of the Week

:::Though I ADORE Anne Hathaway, her ex-BF Raffaello Follieri has been crowned Ass Clown of the Week for squandering people out of their money and generally being a skeezeball.

:::"A criminal complaint filed by the U.S. attorney in Manhattan Tuesday charged Mr. Follieri with fraud, conspiracy and money laundering. It alleged that he stole hundreds of thousands of dollars of investor money to pay for a $37,000-a-month New York apartment where he lived for a time with Ms. Hathaway; private-jet travel; fine restaurants and clothes; medical costs, and even a dog-walking service for his pet. A spokeswoman for the U.S. attorney said the probe is continuing."

Let's Not Get to Know Each Other Better

:::The New York Times held a contest called "Modern Love," giving Gen Y a chance to send in written submissions about their own personal views and experiences with 21st Century romance [or lack thereof].

:::Here's my favorite one, by Joel Walkowski, a runner up. I liked it so much I immediately Facebooked him, like the dork that I clearly am.

Secret Diary of a Call Girl

:::Can we say hooker-chic? Not since Julia Roberts' prostitute-with-a-heart-of-gold has such a professionably questionable character been so likable! Per usual, those unoriginal TV execs hopped the pond and brought over the British hit "Secret Diary of a Call Girl," based on the popular diary of Belle de Jour, who worked as said call girl. I'm not sure if it's been remade or if Showtime is just showing the actual British version, but it seems unchanged. Set in London, it stars Billie Piper as the title character, living a double life as both Hannah and Belle. Honest, witty, and fun, it maintains the edge that Americans usually take out of the British television that they rip off.

:::True to form, I became interested in the show when I realized the star, Billie Piper, is former late-'90s pop singer "Billie." I mean c'mon, who doesn't love late-'90s pop!?!?

Here's a taste: remebmer this little ditty???

Fahim Anwar

:::OMG this guy is hilarious! His first video "Afghan Wedding" was a hit on YouTube, with Afghans and non-Afghans alike. Months after I saw it, I went back and checked out some of his other vids and his stand-up. This kid's gonna be big, mark my words! I mean, I totally called Will Ferrell's hugeness back in like '97, so CLEARLY I know what's up....LOL.

:::Check out "Blind Date" below. Understated, but fantastic. "You can just open the door and barrel-roll right out!" LOL! Search his name on the Tube and you can see the rest his stuff.....you're welcome.

ADAM

:::Adam Lippes' ADAM Resort collection is so delectably light, fun, and beachy, you'll never want to come back from your winter getaway! Bright hues, yellows that pop, and breezy dresses round up the frocks. Perfect for summer, it makes me wish they were available now!

:::From 1-10, I give it an 8.

:::Pictured are some faves....

Alexander McQueen

:::"Uber-partying, uber-glamour" was the theme at Alexander McQueen Resort show in Milan on Sunday. Lots of nudes, geometric patterns, and futuristic shapes. Interesting, with a few phenom pieces, but overall not my fave.

:::From 1-10, I'd give it a 6.

:::A couple faves above....

3.1 Phillip Lim

:::Hmmmm.......innnnnteresting

:::Philip Lim's Resort 2009 is cute & fun, pretty simple overall though. Nothing too crazy or groundbreaking, but I'd still wear every piece in the collection, per usual. On a negative note, the first look, a monochromatic baby blue pantsuit is waaayyy too Mary Tyler Moore for my taste. Too literal, tone it down!

:::From 1-10, I'd give it a 7.0

:::Some of my faves are pictured above.....

Monet for $80.4 Mill! Jaysus!

:::"It's like a painting, see? From far away, it's OK, but up close, it's a big old mess!"
-Cher, Clueless

:::Tuesday night at Christie's in London, Claude Monet's "Le Bassin aux Nympheas" from 1919 broke the record for the most expensive Monet ever sold, grabbing $80.4 million dollars early in the night.

:::Personally, I'm more of a Manet fan.

I Love the New Millenium

:::I know what you're thinking......IT'S TOO SOON!

:::Yes, indeed it is. Doesn't mean I'm not gonna watch it! As my dear friend Wanye East said in an eloquent text message, "Pregame EVERY night to it!" I saw the years 2000 [back when the world made sense!] and 2001 last night, and it was just as deliciously nostalgic & inane it as it should be!

:::In the spirit of Wanye, why not create a fab drinking game to this little cream puff of pop culture study? Pull out the shot glasses and boxed wine! [hit up the liquor if you're gangsta like that]

++Every time Michael Ian Black comments, take a shot

++Every time Britney Spears is referenced, take two shots [the extra shot is to numb the pain of seeing The Ghost of Britney Past]
++When reminiscing about a really annoying song by a one hit wonder, take a shot and break into said song [this includes the "Sisqo: Hotties I'd Like to See in Thongs" segment on each episode]

++Technological upgrade that changed our lives? Take a shot
++Every time a has-been reality star comments, take half a shot [half, so as not to DIE, given the volume of these washed up clowns on the show]
++Shameless product placement/integrated marketing? Take two shots.
[Speaking of which, this drinking game is sponsored by Orbit Gum. For a good, clean feeling!]

BARACK + ROLL!

YES::WE::CAN

Duffy:::ROCKFERRY

:::I'm SO late on this, but I downloaded Duffy's Rockferry album a couple weeks ago, and I cannot stop listening to it! She's the latest British chick to hit the big time on this side of the pond, and the latest '60s-Motown-soul-inspired white girl to belt her way to the top of the charts. I heard her song on a bunch of tv shows and in the Sex & the City movie, and loved it, but had no clue it was from the CD I saw in Starbucks everyday!

:::My first impression pegged her as an Amy Winehouse knockoff, but her songs are catchy and addictive nonetheless. Check out the newest single, "Warwick Avenue" below. Happy listening!
