Though I think I like her Spring 2009 RTW more, Stella McCartney did not disappoint with her Fall showing in Paris last month. I'm loving the structured, boxy blazers. It's feminine, with a little menswear and androgyny thrown in - also, it all looks super comfortable. From the pants to the slipdresses, it's another hit for Stella. And apparently, the company increased six-fold last year....guess the economy isn't hurting everyone!
:::Danny McBride is seriously one the funniest dudes ever. I still haven't seen The Foot Fist Way (which he wrote and starred in), but anything that's so highly recommended by Will Ferrell and Adam McKay is probably pretty freakin' amazing. His HBO comedy Eastbound & Down (which the clip above is from) just got renewed for a second season, and he's set to appear in the new Will Ferrell film Land of the Lost. Plus, he's hilarious in Hot Rod!
These are the most comfortable flats I have EVER owned, and for once they don't make your feet all sweaty and smelly! (Ladies, you know what I'm talking about.) Since they're real leather and not plastic or pleather like a lot of the cheaper throw-away flats of Target and Forever 21, they breathe. And did I mention that they're RIDICULOUSLY comfortable! I seriously thought they were house slippers when I first put them on. Shop Sue London here!
What can I say? Chloe continues to churn out the goods, in the fabulous '70s style I've always loved from the French fashion house. I fell in love with the label when Stella McCartney was there, and through Phoebe Philo and now Hannah MacGibbon, it has stayed true to it's vintage-inspired, boho aesthetic while still remaining utterly chic and modern. Chloe always gets camel right, and this season they threw in my favorite color of the momemt, gray (like my bedroom walls and nails).
:::On that note, here's a great quote from Andy Samberg about people who like to hate on SNL - because there are always the haters. It's NEVER "as good as it used to be" to anyone who has ever watched the show at a certain point in its 34-year run - I personally love the late-'90s cast. But I love comedy and take it for what it is. I HATE when people hate on the show and talk about how unfunny it is before a sketch is even over, or because they don't "get" something; if you're one of these people do NOT watch with me or I will cut you. They're a team of all different types of writers and performers who each have their own style, so it's a mash up of their humor. That's why there is something for everyone. Even if you don't like comedy, you're bound to like at least one sketch, the musical guest, or the host. Thus is the beauty of SNL!
:::"It's been interesting. I didn't realize how much people liked to bash SNL until I was on. I've always just liked it, and I've always watched it and been into it. But I try to make comedy, so I think I'm more sensitive to that. If I watch an episode of SNL, and there's one thing that I liked, then that's a good episode. It's been on 31 years; it's an institution. It's not always going to feel like the freshest thing you've ever seen, but if you take any episode of SNL ever made, there's something great in every one of them. That's the definition of a variety show, especially if there's 30 years of fans of the show. That's such a wide spectrum of tastes that you're trying to appeal to. That's why you can have "Roy Rules" and a really smart Jim Downey piece about politics in the same show. The odds of there being one person who's really into both things is not super high. I mean, I am, but I love comedy. [Laughs.] The average viewer is tuning in for what they like. Personally, that's what I think is awesome about the show." - Andy Samberg Well said, sir.
:::This is a little late since their album came out in February, but I love them so much I just had to rave about The Lonely Island! If you know me, it's no secret that I have an insane obsession with Saturday Night Live, the greatest show in the history of television. I have *Lorne Michaels to thank for introducing me to my current comedic faves, The Lonely Island. Everyone knows my future husband, Andy Samberg, from the hilarious digital shorts that have been some of the funniest stuff on the show since he joined the cast in 2005, but he and his creative partners Jorma Taccone and Akiva Schaffer (who write for the show and often direct/make cameos in the shorts) have been making comedy together for years. This is a comedy album that could actually be legit music you put on at a party - minus the absurd lyrics. "Jizz In My Pants" is a top ten song in Australia for God's sake! Great production, and even better comedy. It debuted at #1 on iTunes the first week and #13 on the Billboard charts!
:::Not gonna lie though, I can do without "Sax Man." But besides that, the beats are hot, and the cameos are pretty fucking awesome. JT, T-Pain, Norah Jones, Julian Casablancas (who sings the chorus on the totally weird-but-hilarious "Boombox"), and NorCal rapper E-40. Hit up their MySpace page to listen to the whole thing!
:::The album includes songs from past shorts, like "Dick in a Box," "Lazy Sunday," "Natalie's Rap," "Ras Trent," "I'm On a Boat," and the aforementioned "Jizz In My Pants." This past week's SNL with host Seth Rogen saw the premiere of the video for "Like a Boss," my personal favorite. Check out the uncensored version and a few others below.....you're welcome. Poseidon, look at meeeeeeeee.
:::I have lukewarm feelings for Lily Allen's new album, "It's Not Me, It's You." I absolutely LOVE just about every song on "Alright, Still" and consider it one of my soundtracks to college. Her sophomore effort is definitely download-worthy, but lacks the catchy hits like "Smile" and "LDN." Kind of more laid back and toned down. Though there aren't any super fun songs you can really rock out to when you're, say, getting ready to go out or on the beach, the production is great and pretty original. The lyrics are def more mature as well - she's done some growing up. I really like "The Fear," but considering that was the first single, you can already tell there aren't going to be a ton of radio-friendly songs. "22" is probabyly my favorite. Here's the video for her newest single, "Not Fair." Cute vid, and she looks fab!
:::This song is PHENOMENAL....quickly becoming one of my faves of all time. I've literally been listening to it on repeat for two weeks. Def the best song on the album, but the rest of the tracks are amazing as well. Play, listen, repeat.
:::WOW, I can't believe my last entry was in July and about The Dark Knight. That's SO retro. It's pretty nuts that it's been almost a year....so much ish has happened! Time flies when you're hating your job....but I'm no longer at that publicist hell-hole, it's officially spring, Obama is president, and I have my laptop back (along with my life and general happiness; yea I REALLY hated my job). So here's some catch-up on some of my most recent faves in life.
