Coldplay:::VIVA LA VIDA OR DEATH AND ALL HIS FRIENDS
:::I've been waiting WEEKS to comment on Coldplay's fourth studio album, Viva la Vida or Death and All His Friends, and not just because it took me that long to write out the title. I downloaded "Violet Hill" and "Viva la Vida" as soon as the songs were available, and loved them like I do anything from Chris & Co. [though they weren't my absolute favorites]. Though I liked the last album X & Y, it wasn't as good as the first two [then again, what is?]. For some reason, it kind of has a foreign feel. [I know what you're thinking: DUH, they're British! But I mean like general non-western foreign.] More trippy, electronic sounds like X & Y that once again makes it sound a tad bit over-produced. I not-so-secretly wish they would just strip it down and make some simpler stuff that sounds more like the first two albums. :::LE SIGH:::
:::I refused to comment on the album until I really listened to the whole thing through and through, because my first impression of music often changes drastically after a few more in-depth listens and after really understanding the lyrics. Coldplay [like John Mayer] is one of those musical acts that ties in with my life emotionally, weaving whatever I'm feeling when I'm listening into the melodies. I know, music does that for most people; but regardless of how much I like/dislike their particular songs when it's new to my ears, if I listen enough during any one point of time, I like it more later on when I've separated myself from that period. Does that make any sense? Probably not.
:::Anyway, to quit my emo-rambling and sum up: it's growing on me. Still no where NEAR as good as A Rush of Blood to the Head or Parachutes though.
:::Listen to one of my fave songs off the new album, "Lost." Happy listening!
