:::Here are the different gold nuggets of acumen I've collected from Ace Ventura over the past decade, paraphrased the way I remember them....
1997:::"When I was a broke, struggling comedian, I wrote a $10 million check to myself and dated it five years into the future. I gave myself a deadline, and carried it around in my wallet so that I'd see it every time I took money out. Of course, over time, it gradually became torn and decrepit; and right before Thanksgiving last year, I was offered $10 million for Dumb & Dumber."
1997:::"My father was a jazz musician; music was his passion in life. But he gave up his dream because he had a family to support, and went the corporate route. After years of working for a company, he was laid off, and we were so poor that we had to live in our car for a long period of time. I realized from that point on that there's no such thing as a 'secure' job, and that you should do what you love no matter what."
2007:::"I really wish everyone could have the opportunity to became rich and famous, just so they could realize that it really doesn't mean anything or make you happy in life."
2008:::"I've been in a lot failed relationships, and I've realized that the only way to be happy with someone else is to be happy with yourself. Once I was content with just being by myself and enjoying my own company, I realized I don't need someone else to complete me. Now I'm in the best relationship of my life. But don't worry Oprah, I'm not going to jump up and down on your couch! I'm jumping up and down inside, though."
2008:::"I've come to realize how to change my thinking, and just be happy in the now. There were times when I'd spend two hours just thinking about someone I had resentment for, imagining what I'd say to them if they said this or that to me; that's crazy! Now if I'm thinking something like that, I'm conscious of it, I immediately stop, and I come back to be happy and content present moment. It's just not time spent wisely."
:::Funny that I heard all but one of these statements during his various appearances on Oprah over the years....gotta love Mama O! She's the ultimate wisdom-giver!
